The Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy (AHWS) is a policy and service initiative that brings together Aboriginal people and the Government of Ontario in a unique partnership to promote health and healing among Aboriginal people. In 1990, Aboriginal organizations and the government ministries that developed this Strategy expressed a commitment to combat the alarming conditions of poor health and family violence that Aboriginal People in Ontario have endured.
As a crucial part of the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy, the Health Policy Analysts are to address the broader areas of family violence and health policy and programming in the Aboriginal community. Implementation of the Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy involves discussion between the government and the Ontario Native Women's Association, ongoing liaison, consultation with Aboriginal communities, and participation in other policy development pursuant to the overall Strategy.
Working with member Aboriginal communities and organizations, the Health Policy Analyst will identify/determine the existing and emerging health and wellness concerns with Aboriginal communities particularly related to:

  • Reduction of Family Violence
  • Primary Health Care
  • Health Promotion
  • Illness Prevention

The Health Policy Analysts monitor, analyse, and communicate local, regional and/or provincial level health and healing needs with a view to improve the overall health and well-being of Aboriginal people living in Ontario. Aboriginal cultural approaches will be reflected or used as a part of the activities and services.
