The Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy combines traditional and mainstream health services to address the needs of the Aboriginal communities. Awareness is made to prevent family violence through education, counseling, crisis intervention; address underlying/emotional issues.
The CDSW Program is to develop and/or enhance skills and capacity of AHWS-funded programs and projects to achieve desired program and service outcomes.
The main goals and objectives of the CDSW are:
- To support the implementation and management of Aboriginal Healing and Wellness (AHWS) funded programs.
- To provide funded programs support to Health Outreach Workers, a Mental Health Program, and the Health Policy Analyst.
- To provide direct community development assistance to increase and maintain capacity and competence in program governance.
- Program planning, development, management, administration, evaluation, and redesign.
- To support the development and maintenance of an adequate administrative, travel, and accountability infrastructure.
- To track and monitor reports and compliance for annual submissions, quarterly reports, lapsing funds, and year end reports.
- To ensure that guidelines/program objectives are met within each assigned AHWS funded program under CDSW management.
The Community Development Support Worker manages three Community Health Outreach sites in Thunder Bay, Sioux Lookout, and Geraldton, as well as a Mental Health Program in Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay.
Each program brings a variety of local programming dealing with health in their community.
